NEW THIS YEAR – POWERING UP SAFETY: MANAGING BATTERY RISKS IN RECYCLING
The rapid proliferation of small, medium, and large-format batteries is creating new and increasingly complex challenges for the recycling industry. In this session, we will examine how batteries are changing the risk profile of recycling operations and putting new demands on infrastructure, equipment, and safety practices.

The discussion will explore current best practices and industry standards, with particular attention to emerging standards now in development. We will also examine the systems level risks associated with electric vehicle and hybrid batteries and how safety experts, environmental agencies, fire departments, insurers, and legislators are responding. Finally, the session will highlight how recyclers, policymakers, OEMs, and other stakeholders can work together to build practical solutions that leverage existing recycling infrastructure while protecting employees, facilities, and surrounding communities.
