Aluminz Announces America’s First Zero-Landfill Aluminum Production Facility

On Wednesday, July 30, Aluminz Corporation, a new entrant in sustainable aluminum processing, announced a major milestone in its mission to redefine aluminum recovery in North America. They received unanimous support from the Mount Pleasant City Council and the Mount Pleasant Economic Development Corporation (MPEDC), the company has secured a 155-acre site and signed a 30-year lease and performance agreement to develop the nation’s first zero-landfill aluminum tolling facility. Aluminz is a portfolio company of 1V1sion Capital, a New York City-based private investment firm.

The project is expected to create over 130 permanent, above-market-wage jobs, and 75 skilled construction roles, revitalizing the manufacturing base in Titus County. With site preparation slated to begin in Fall 2025, groundbreaking is planned for Q4, and commercial operations are targeted for mid-to-late 2027.

“This initiative isn’t only good for Titus County and Aluminz; it will help drive growth for a wide ecosystem of partners and customers,” said Richard Mayenknecht, CEO of Aluminz. “Our ability to cost-effectively meet the needs of businesses in the region and beyond will power a wide range of enterprises. Aluminz is proud to partner with MPEDC to make it happen.

According to Mayenknecht, the U.S. aluminum industry typically converts white and black dross directly through tilting rotary furnaces and then sending the furnace salt cake to the landfill. Aluminz approaches dross through U.S.-developed proprietary technology that, according to the company, improves aluminum recovery in addition to converting all the non-aluminum salt cake into industrial commodities that are reused. Aluminz’s furnace flux salt is fully recrystallized, and the remaining non-metallic material is utilized in the Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement industry.

“Our customers are our partners. Whether they generate white dross, black dross, or scrap, we help them recover aluminum, close the loop, and meet aggressive sustainability targets,” said Larry Harmon, COO of Aluminz.

Why It Matters

  • Critical Metal: Aluminum underpins the aerospace, automotive, electronics, consumer and renewable-energy sectors—yet the U.S. imports a substantial amount of the raw material.  They add a homegrown, ultra-low-carbon supply.
  • Economic Impact: 130+ full-time, above-market-wage careers in operations, maintenance and administration; 75+ construction positions; partnerships with local technical colleges for workforce development.
  • Environmental Leadership: True zero-landfill processing, a 7.5 MW solar array, and best-in-class emissions controls reduce greenhouse gas footprint by over 90% vs. other secondary aluminum producers.

Additional Project Highlights

  • Substantial investment in state-of-the-art aluminum recovery technology.
  • 140,000 MT/year conversion capacity.
  • Zero-landfill model enabled by advanced technology, averting ~60,000 MT a year of material from landfill.
  • Direct rail access to Union Pacific (UNP) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) lines via NETEX Rail and proximity to Interstate I-30.

According to Mayenknecht, Mt. Pleasant city council, MTP Economic Development Corporation, Titus County, and the Town of Winfield, all played an important role in how the site was chosen.

“Mt. Pleasant was the first site that we visited back in mid-2024, and after considering more than 45 other sites, we knew that we had a home in Titus County,” he said. “The City Council, Titus County leadership, and the EDC presented strong financial support, with an unmatched 155-acre parcel of land with incredible logistics opportunities.”

Aluminz has rail access to both Union Pacific and CPKC via the NETEX short line service. This rail capability gives Aluminz the ability to sustainably reach many aluminum customers. In addition, the Aluminz site is less than a quarter mile from Interstate I-30, which is a major east-west corridor in the southern U.S.

“Our motto has become ‘land here, grow here,’ and today we are excited to welcome Aluminz to Mount Pleasant, Texas,” said Erman Hensel, Board President of MPEDC. “This achievement is a testament to the power of teamwork and strong leadership. When local partners come together with a shared vision, great things happen. This announcement represents a major milestone in Mount Pleasant’s continued efforts to attract new investment and support job creation. The addition of Aluminz further positions Mount Pleasant, Texas, as a place where businesses can grow and succeed.”
