New Emergency Preparedness Materials for OSHA Safe + Sound Week

Every August, organizations across the nation participate in Safe + Sound Week, a promotion organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Running this year from Aug. 11 to 17, Safe + Sound Week recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs. It also offers information and ideas on how to keep America’s workers safe. The event is open to any organization looking to recognize its commitment to safety. It’s also a chance for organizations to launch a safety program or energize an existing one.

The theme for Safe + Sound Week 2025 is Preparedness is Your Superpower. Starting in July, you can sign up and find emergency preparedness and response materials on the Safe + Sound Week website.

Crisis Communication & Response-Ready Challenges

Emergencies can happen anytime. Does your workplace know what to do during an emergency? Get ready for Safe + Sound Week by completing one or more of OSHA’s emergency preparedness and response challenges.

In an emergency, workers need to know whether to evacuate, stay put, or wait for instructions. How will you alert workers during an emergency? Take the Crisis Communication Challenge to evaluate and enhance your crisis communication skills. Then, share that you completed the challenge on social media using #CrisisCommunication and #SafeAndSoundAtWork.

Emergencies can put your workers, business, and community at risk.  Do your workers know what to do in an emergency? Make sure your workers are familiar with your emergency action plan and have a voice in making it more effective with the Response-Ready Workplace Challenge.

Building Teamwork and Safety Culture

Safe + Sound Week is a great opportunity for a company’s senior leadership to work with and better understand the needs of their workforce. Leaders can learn about health and safety issues facing their employees. The event can help build teamwork and safety culture across the organization. Having the highest level of leadership in the company address workers’ health and safety sets a tone of commitment. Leadership could lead a safety meeting, deliver a safety message, or walk the floor and discuss safety goals with workers.

Serious job-related injuries or illnesses hurt workers and their families. They also have the potential to hurt businesses. Implementing a health and safety program, however, allows businesses to proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they can cause injury or illness, which improves sustainability and the bottom line. Health and safety programs also help businesses:

  • Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Improve compliance with laws and regulations
  • Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers’ compensation premiums
  • Engage workers
  • Enhance social responsibility goals
  • Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations

Last year, more than 3,400 businesses helped raise awareness about workers’ health and safety. We hope that your business participates in this year’s Safe + Sound Week. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to ReMA’s safety team.
