ReMA News had the chance to chat with Michael Rahaim, Insurance Consultant at Lockton Companies, all about the company and its work with the recycled materials industry as well as what he’s looking forward to as a new ReMA member.
Tell me about your role at Lockton.
My role is to bring strategic ideas and resources to my clients in the recycling space. If I am not bringing my clients proactive options and getting started early in the process to optimize the outcome of their insurance program, I am simply not doing my job.
Can you tell me a about the company?
Lockton is the largest privately own insurance brokerage firm in the world. We offer employee benefits and property and casualty insurance. We’re a family-owned company so, unlike private equity or publicly traded insurance brokers that focus on increasing margins, we invest deeper into people and resources for our client’s advantage.
There’s been a stigma on the recycled materials industry with insurance carriers. We disrupt that narrative by getting our clients in front of insurance carriers to describe their operations and put them in the best light possible. We want them to get as comfortable with the operations so that they aren’t seen as another submission on a carrier’s desk. It’s our job to help our clients get the best outcomes and get the best terms and conditioning and pricing.
How did you hear about ReMA? And how did you decide to join?
My dad has a recycled materials company in Michigan that focuses on glass recycling. Throughout my 12-year career in the insurance industry I’ve always had a soft spot and interest in recycling companies of all kinds. Many of my clients are recyclers. From talking with my dad about associations I should get into ReMA came up. I’m looking to create long-term partnerships with other ReMA members and within the association itself.
What are you looking forward to as a new ReMA member?
I’m looking forward to getting as involved as possible, not just pay my dues but make genuine connections and maximize my membership. Through attending events and networking, I want to meet other members and learn about their concerns and how I can help. I don’t look at myself as an insurance person trying to make a sale.; it’s a long-term partnership with others in the industry and helping them as a consultant.
