ReMA Highlights Essential Nature of Recycled Materials at 2026 Annual Fly-In

On Tuesday, February 10, more than 120 recyclers from across the country traveled to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to meet with lawmakers and legislative staff as part of the Recycled Materials Association’s (ReMA) 2026 Congressional Fly-In.

ReMA members had one unifying message: America is Made with Recycled Materials. The message is part of the industry’s campaign to emphasize that recycled materials are everywhere. From everyday items to our essential infrastructure, recycled materials strengthen the manufacturing supply chain to ensure a stronger economy, supply chain, and nation.

“The turnout is a testament to the commitment we made to the industry,” said Colin Kelly, ReMA Chair. “It’s critical we continue to tell our story clearly, consistently, and collectively. Our industry is essential to our nation’s economic resilience. Today is about ensuring policymakers understand that reality.”

The morning started with a breakfast featuring guest speaker Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI-11).

“The work of this organization is really quite tremendous,” she said. “I believe that recycling is part of our infrastructure. You’re working alongside our manufacturers. If we don’t have you succeeding, we’re not winning. I’m here to applaud that you’ve taken your time to engage in deep conversations with policymakers and staffers.”

Throughout the day, recyclers conducted over 190 meetings with U.S. Representatives, Senators, and their staff. Among the topics discussed were asking the legislators to join the congressional recycling caucus, to protect supply chains by supporting the bipartisan Combating Organized Retail Crime Act, to strengthen market access for recycled materials, and to extend PFAS liability protections for passive receivers.
