  • NJ Rev. Stat. Title 13, Ch. 1E, § 13:1E-99.135 to 13:1E-99.157 (as created by 2020 NJ SB 2515)
  • New Jersey DEP’s Recycled Content Law page includes compliance and rulemaking information for their postconsumer recycled content mandates for the following products:
    • Rigid plastic containers: 10% by 2024, increasing by 10% every 3 years to 50% by 2036.
    • Plastic beverage containers: 15% by 2024, increasing by 5% every 3 years to 50% by 2045. Containers utilizing a hot-fill process must achieve at least 30% recycled content.
    • Glass containers: 35% by 2024, or 25% for containers comprised of at least 50% mixed color cullet.
    • Paper carryout bags: 40% by 2024, or 20% for 8 lb. bags or less.
    • Plastic carryout bags: 20% by 2024; 40% by 2027
    • Plastic trash bags: tiered requirements based on thickness, up to 20% by 2024, and up to 40% by 2027.
