ReMA Washington, DCRobin Wiener is President of the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), the leading trade association representing more than 1,700 companies in the U.S. and around the world that collect, process, broker and consume recycled materials. Under her leadership, ReMA advocates for a strong, safe and sustainable recycled materials industry and works to advance recycling as a critical component of U.S. manufacturing, infrastructure and supply chain resilience.
For more than three decades, Robin has been a leading voice for the recycled materials industry, helping elevate its role in the U.S. economy, global trade and environmental sustainability. She has guided ReMA through significant growth and change, strengthening the association’s advocacy, industry leadership and public profile while advancing priorities including safety, innovation, responsible environmental practices and competitive markets.
Robin currently serves on the Boards of the American Society of Association Executives, Keep America Beautiful, JASON Learning, the Recycling Education and Research Foundation and the Tyre Recycling Foundation. She also is a member of the U.S. Chamber Association Committee of 100 and the World Council of Recycling Associations and serves on the Bureau of International Recycling’s (BIR) Electric, Electronic and EV Batteries Steering Committee.
Robin is a past Chair of the Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA) within the National Association of Manufacturers and has served on the Boards of SERI, the National Recycling Coalition and The Recycling Partnership and as an appointee on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Steel (a joint advisory group of the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office and the U.S. Department of Commerce) and the Department of Justice’s National Motor Vehicle Title Information System Advisory Board.
Her leadership and contributions to the industry have been widely recognized, including the Inaugural Recycling Leadership Award from the Global Recycling Foundation, the 2022 Israel Proler Award and the 2008 CMA Leadership Award, to recognize her work promoting manufacturing and associations. The Robin Wiener L.A.K.E.S. Award was established in her honor to recognize leadership, achievement, knowledge, excellence and service in the recycling industry.
Robin joined ReMA (then ISRI) in 1989 and previously served as environmental compliance director and assistant general counsel before becoming its leader in 1997. She began her career at ICF Incorporated and is co-author of the RCRA Compliance & Enforcement Manual. She holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Robin K. Wiener joined the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI), now the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), in 1989 to direct the association’s environmental compliance activities. On June 2, 1997, she was appointed ReMA executive director, after serving as association assistant counsel and director of environmental compliance. In March 2000, ReMA’s board conferred on her the title of president.
As president of ReMA, Robin leads the Washington, DC based trade association representing the $117 billion recycling industry, representing more than 1,300 companies nationwide and throughout the globe that process, broker and industrially consume valuable recycled commodities (including metal, paper, plastics, textiles, rubber, and electronics). ReMA’s mission is to promote safe, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible recycling through networking, advocacy, and education. ReMA has annual revenues in excess of $16 million and employs a staff of approximately 50.
As president of ReMA, Robin leads the Washington, DC based trade association representing the $117 billion recycling industry, representing more than 1,300 companies nationwide and throughout the globe that process, broker and industrially consume valuable recycled commodities.
Representing the Recycled Materials Industry
In addition to her leadership of ReMA, as part of her role representing the recycling industry, Robin has been appointed to the following positions:
- Member of the Key Industry Associations Committee (KIAC) of ASAE.
- Serves on the Boards of Keep America Beautiful, the Recycling Partnership, and Jason Learning. In past years, she has served on the Boards of SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International) , the National Association of Manufacturers, and the National Recycling Council (NRC).
- For over 10 years, Robin served as an appointee on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Steel (ITAC-12).
- National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Advisory Board (2010-2016), appointed Chair of NMVTIS board June of 2014.
- Past Chair of NAM’s Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA).
Additionally, Robin is co-author of the RCRA Compliance & Enforcement Manual as part of its Environmental Law Series. She has a JD from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science.
